Water Heater Repair Prices
Every repair starts with a $99 diagnostic visit, and that fee is waived if we do the work. The repairs we do most often have a book price, so you know the number before the truck leaves the shop:

|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic visit, storage tank | $99 | Waived if work is performed. |
| Pilot relight | $89 | |

Book prices apply during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM; pricing outside those hours or in an emergency is subject to change. We take calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Indoor repairs carry a 20% surcharge over book price. Tankless diagnostics are priced separately. The full book, including maintenance and memberships, is on our pricing page.
Is Your Water Heater Still Under Warranty?
A standard residential tank carries the manufacturer’s warranty of 6 years on the tank and parts, and most brands sell longer tiers on their premium models. If your tank is inside its term, the manufacturer supplies the part and our manufacturer warranty repair ($425) covers the repair, the diagnostic and a flush with that part. Have the model number and install date ready if you can; we confirm the term during the diagnostic.
| Brand | Standard tier | Upgraded tiers | Labor from the manufacturer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rheem | 6-year tank and parts | 9-year and 12-year (Performance Platinum) | Typically 1 year; up to 3 years on some premium models |
| A. O. Smith | 6-year tank and parts (ProLine, ProMax, Signature 100) | 8-year (Vertex), 9-year (Signature Premier), 10-year (ProLine Master) | Not covered on most tiers; registration within 90 days required |
| Bradford White | 6-year tank and parts | 8-year and 10-year, chosen at purchase by model number | Not covered on standard models |
If the tank is out of its term and the right answer is a replacement, that water heater installation is backed by a 1-year Water Heater Genius labor warranty on all connections, plus the new unit’s own 6-year manufacturer’s warranty. Tiers are as each manufacturer publishes them for its residential tank lines; the tier is fixed by the model number at purchase, and the standard tier is what we install at book price. The labor column is each manufacturer’s own coverage and is separate from our 1-year labor warranty, which applies whichever brand you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the signs my water heater needs repair — no hot water, leaking, or noise?
The usual ones, in the words people describe them: no hot water at all, water that runs lukewarm or goes cold partway through a shower, a water heater leaking from the bottom or pooling on the garage floor, banging and rumbling noises, rusty or discolored hot water, a pilot light that keeps going out, or a burning smell near the unit. Catching any of these early is what keeps a repair from turning into a replacement.
Can you repair both tank and tankless water heaters?
Yes. Our technicians are trained to repair all types of water heaters — including gas, electric, and tankless systems — from all major brands.
How quickly can you fix my water heater?
In most cases the same day. Our vehicles carry the parts that fail most often — thermocouples, elements, thermostats, gas valves and pilot assemblies — so the majority of repairs finish on the first visit. For an emergency with no hot water at all, we prioritize the call and offer evening and weekend appointments.
What if my water heater can’t be repaired?
If your unit is too old or damaged for a cost-effective repair, we’ll recommend a suitable replacement and can install it the same day in most cases. Our goal is always to find the most practical and affordable solution for you.
How much does a water heater repair cost?
The diagnostic visit is $99, waived if we do the repair. Common repairs have a flat book price: a pilot relight is $89, a supply line is $139, a T&P relief valve is $295, and an electric heating element or thermostat is $295 including a flush. Anything beyond that is quoted after the diagnostic and agreed before work continues.
Do book prices apply to evening or weekend repairs?
Book prices apply during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. We still take evening, weekend and emergency calls, but pricing outside normal hours or in an emergency is subject to change, so we quote it when you call. Members on our maintenance plan pay the standard book price for after-hours work.
