Whether you’re building a new home, replacing an aging system, or upgrading to a tankless model, our team makes sure your new water heater is installed for maximum performance and efficiency. We take the time to assess your home’s plumbing, energy source, and hot water demands before recommending the best unit for your needs.
A new unit is a planned purchase for most households, and water heater financing is available if you would rather spread the cost. We install both gas and electric water heaters, and the right answer usually follows what is already at the unit. Gas installation means the flue, combustion air and gas connection have to meet current code — often the part of the job that adds cost on an older house. Electric installation skips venting entirely but needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to the unit. We check both before recommending anything, then handle capacity, code and permit from there, with same-day availability across Pico Rivera and the surrounding areas.

What Size Water Heater Do You Need?
Rheem, A. O. Smith and Bradford White all publish household sizing guidance, and they agree closely. This is the consensus for a gas storage tank:
| People in the home | Bathrooms | Gas tank size |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 2 | 1 | 30 to 40 gallons |
| 2 to 3 | 1 to 2 | 40 gallons |
| 3 to 4 | 2 | 40 to 50 gallons |
| 4 to 5 | 2 to 3 | 50 gallons |
| 5 or more | 3 or more | 65 to 75 gallons, or a tankless unit |
Tank size is a starting point. The number that matters is the First Hour Rating on the unit’s yellow EnergyGuide label, which should meet or exceed your busiest hour of hot water use. We size every install to that number.
To find your busiest hour, add up what runs in it. The U.S. Department of Energy and AHRI worksheet, which every manufacturer defers to, counts hot water per use like this:
| Use | Hot water per use |
|---|---|
| Shower | 20 gallons |
| Bath | 20 gallons |
| Shaving | 2 gallons |
| Hands and face washing | 4 gallons |
| Hair shampoo | 4 gallons |
| Hand dishwashing | 4 gallons |
| Automatic dishwasher | 14 gallons |
| Food preparation | 5 gallons |
| Automatic clothes washer | 32 gallons |
AHRI’s own example: three showers (60) plus a shave (2), a shampoo (4) and a round of hand dishwashing (4) is 70 gallons in the peak hour, so the unit needs a First Hour Rating of 70 or more. A 5-person home with three or more bathrooms is usually past what a 50-gallon tank can do in that hour, which is where a 75-gallon tank or a tankless unit comes in; both are in our price book.

Water Heater Replacement Prices
These are our book prices for a same-location replacement of an existing residential water heater at ground level, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM; pricing outside those hours or in an emergency is subject to change. We take calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Every replacement includes delivery, draining and removing the old unit, new hot and cold supply lines, and a one-year labor warranty on all connections, plus the manufacturer’s warranty on the unit. The full list, including add-ons and code items, is on our pricing page, and our replacement cost guide explains what moves the number from one house to the next.
| Service | Price | Includes / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gas storage tank replacement | 30/40 gal: $1,59550 gal: $1,795 |
|
| Electric water heater replacement | 30/40 gal: $1,45050 gal: $1,675 | Ties in to the existing electrical connections; wiring problems are work for an electrician. |
| 75- or 100-gallon replacement | Quoted on site | Residential or commercial. Evaluated in person. |
| New installation or relocation | Quoted on site | A book price applies only where the home already has a water heater in the same spot. |
Add-ons are priced in addition to the replacement: haul away $95, permit $295 administrative fee plus the city’s permit cost (with a standing inspection), earthquake straps $225, drain pan $75, gas sediment trap $225, and a single-wall to double-wall venting upgrade $250 to $450. A second-level or indoor installation carries a $249 surcharge.
Our Warranty
Every installation is backed by a 1-year Water Heater Genius labor warranty on all connections. The unit carries the manufacturer’s warranty on top of that: 6 years on the tank and parts for the standard-tier Bradford White or A. O. Smith tank we install at book price, the standard tier every major manufacturer sells. Longer tiers exist, shown below; if you want one, say so when you book and we quote that model. Registering the unit with the manufacturer is the homeowner’s step, and the deadline matters (A. O. Smith and Rinnai both give 90 days), so we go over the exact terms and the registration step before the work starts.
| Brand | Standard tier | Upgraded tiers | Labor from the manufacturer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rheem | 6-year tank and parts | 9-year and 12-year (Performance Platinum) | Typically 1 year; up to 3 years on some premium models |
| A. O. Smith | 6-year tank and parts (ProLine, ProMax, Signature 100) | 8-year (Vertex), 9-year (Signature Premier), 10-year (ProLine Master) | Not covered on most tiers; registration within 90 days required |
| Bradford White | 6-year tank and parts | 8-year and 10-year, chosen at purchase by model number | Not covered on standard models |
Tiers are as each manufacturer publishes them for its residential tank lines; the tier is fixed by the model number at purchase, and the standard tier is what we install at book price. The labor column is each manufacturer’s own coverage and is separate from our 1-year labor warranty, which applies whichever brand you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I install a gas or electric water heater?
Usually whichever your home is already set up for — switching fuel type is what makes an installation expensive. If you have a gas line and venting at the unit, a gas water heater is normally the cheaper install and the cheaper to run. Electric water heater installation makes sense where there is no gas service, where venting would be difficult, or in a condo or interior closet where a flue is not practical; it needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit with the right breaker, which is the item most often missing. We check what is actually at the unit before recommending either.
How long does a water heater installation take?
Most installations are completed the same day, usually within two to four hours. Times can vary depending on your home’s plumbing setup, the type of unit being installed, and any additional upgrades like venting or expansion tanks.
Do you remove my old water heater?
Yes. We handle everything from disconnecting and removing your old system to properly disposing of it in compliance with local regulations — leaving your space clean and ready for use.
Do you offer warranties on installations?
Yes. Every installation carries a one-year labor warranty on all connections, and the unit carries its manufacturer’s warranty — six years on the Bradford White and A. O. Smith tanks we install at book price. We go over the warranty terms with you before work begins so you know exactly what is covered.
How much does a water heater replacement cost?
At book price, $1,595 for a 30- or 40-gallon gas storage tank and $1,795 for a 50-gallon, installed, or $1,450 and $1,675 for electric. That covers delivery, removal of the old unit, the new unit, new supply lines and the labor warranty. Haul away, the permit, straps, a drain pan and any venting or gas line work are priced separately, and we put the full number in writing before we start. Our complete price list is on the pricing page.
What size water heater do I need?
For a gas storage tank, 30 to 40 gallons for one or two people, 40 to 50 gallons for a family of three or four with two bathrooms, 50 gallons for four or five people, and 65 to 75 gallons or a tankless unit for five or more. The figure that actually decides it is the First Hour Rating on the yellow EnergyGuide label, which has to cover your busiest hour of hot water use. We check that against your fixtures before we recommend a unit.
